Interview with Michael Senyszyn, most recent team member at the FTE Office

Get to know Michael Senyszyn, who has joined Forum Train Europe's team recently! We are delighted to welcome Michael Senyszyn to our team! With extensive experience in train planning and management, he comes with a lot of knowledge to our mission of improving cross-border train services and harmonising processes in rail traffic. Learn about his background and motivation to join the FTE Office in this interview.

What is your professional background? At which stations have you worked?

I began my career as a train driver with the S-Bahn Munich. After about three years, I studied "Traffic Engineering with a focus on Traffic Management" and deepened my knowledge in the planning department. Initially, I worked as a schedule planner, then as a construction operations coordinator, and finally as the head of schedule and depot planning, where I was responsible, among other things, for the annual and occasional timetables. After a restructuring, I moved to traffic contract management and relocated to the headquarters of DB Regio AG in Frankfurt, where I was responsible for the interim timetable, regulation, and the implementation of new processes.

Why did you decide to become part of the FTE team? What are your motivations?

I decided to become part of the FTE team because I had the opportunity to participate in various working groups of FTE at DB Regio. I was particularly fascinated by the structured approach to complex problems and the focus on sustainable solutions. One example was a working group where we quickly found a solution to an urgent train scheduling issue. These experiences motivate me to actively contribute to the harmonisation of European rail traffic and to bring my knowledge into this dynamic team.

How was your entry into FTE? What have been your most formative experiences so far?

My entry into FTE was exciting and enlightening. I was impressed by the international factors that influence train planning and the competence of the stakeholders. At FTE, you can feel the team spirit, where everyone actively contributes with their skills and a hands-on mentality emerges.

What are you particularly looking forward to?

I am particularly looking forward to quickly contributing with my skills and experiences. I want to work together with the members, the IMs, the RBs, and other stakeholders on the vision of a harmonised and integrated European planning process. I am especially excited about the close collaboration and intensive exchange with partners from all over Europe, as well as taking an active role in project management for my topics.

Which topics will you be focusing on initially?

I will take on project management for the topics: Service Facilities, Rolling Planning and Framework Agreements, and the IT topics within FTE. But I know that the topics and my responsibilities can evolve in line with the priorities identified by our members.
