Meet Kristýna, who joined Forum Train Europe as a trainee in October.
She studies Economics at Masaryk University in Brno and brings strong motivation to explore the European railway environment. Learn more about her academic background, her interest in rail, and her first impressions from FTE
Kristýna, could you tell us a bit about your background and academic journey?
Thank you for having me here! My name is Kristýna, and I’m from the Czech Republic. I study Economics at Masaryk University in Brno, where I’m currently completing my Bachelor’s degree. My studies have shown me how strongly economics is connected to transport systems and infrastructure.
That’s also why my Bachelor thesis focuses on price differences and passenger behavior on cross-border railway routes across Central Europe, exploring how economic factors influence international mobility.
What sparked your interest in the railway sector?
My interest developed gradually as I began connecting economic theories with the real-world functioning of transport markets. I’ve also had some exposure to the railway environment through my family, which initially sparked my curiosity. Over time, I became fascinated by how efficiently managed rail systems can strengthen connectivity, sustainability, and competitiveness across Europe.
It’s a sector full of innovation and long-term potential, which makes it an inspiring area to explore.
How did you learn about Forum Train Europe, and what inspired you to apply for this traineeship?
I came across Forum Train Europe while researching organizations that coordinate international rail operations. What immediately caught my attention was FTE’s unique combination of technical expertise, international cooperation, and strategic vision.
I found the organization’s overall approach very professional and forward-looking, and I wanted to experience from the inside how such an essential part of European railway coordination works in practice. The international working environment was also something that really caught my eye, as I enjoy learning and collaborating across different cultures.
What do you hope to gain or achieve during your time at FTE?
I hope to gain practical insight into international railway coordination and better understand the economic and operational aspects behind it. I’m also looking forward to observing how different stakeholders collaborate and to contributing with my analytical mindset and enthusiasm for sustainable transport.
How has your experience been so far with the FTE community?
It’s been a very positive and inspiring experience! Everyone at FTE is incredibly welcoming, open, and supportive, which creates a great learning environment. I really enjoy the international atmosphere and learning from experts with diverse professional perspectives.
It’s motivating to see how much passion and teamwork drive the success of European railway coordination.
